Re~Cycle Container

16 November 2024 –  Thanks to the generous support of our valued partners at Re-Cycle UK, we’ve just received a container load of used bicycles that will make a world of difference in the communities of Cape Town!

A huge shout-out and heartfelt THANK YOU to our amazing donors, dedicated volunteers, and the fantastic team at Re-Cycle for making this collaboration possible. Your contributions have truly fueled the wheels of change, and together, we’re on a journey to transform lives through the power of bicycles.
This partnership is not just about bikes; it’s about empowerment, connectivity, and creating opportunities for communities to thrive. The impact of these bicycles extends far beyond transportation—they represent freedom, access to education, and improved livelihoods.
With the help of our incredible partners on the ground in Cape Town, these bicycles will be distributed to individuals and organizations working tirelessly to make a positive impact. Whether it’s students traveling to school, healthcare workers reaching remote areas, or entrepreneurs expanding their businesses, each pedal stroke propels us toward a brighter, more connected future.

Grabouw Bicycle Day!

What an incredible day it was as we continued our mission of spreading the joy of cycling and mobility throughout Grabouw. We proudly handed over 80 bicycles, further expanding our impact.
Here’s how the latest bicycles were distributed:
50 bikes to Two a Day
15 bikes to Grow Strong
To mark this momentous occasion, we hosted an unforgettable Bike Day at the Trail’s End Bike Hotel in Grabouw. We were honored to have Fezile Mbambo, Director of Western Cape Land Transport Integration and Oversight join us for the festivities and handover.
A big shoutout to Theewaterskloof Municipality, Applewood School, Grabouw Academy, Timbers Klein Begin Community Project and everyone else present who made this day so exciting.
A massive thank you to Dylan Victor for his incredible bicycle skills demonstration, and to Mariska Strauss, the professional mountain biker, for her motivational speech that left us all inspired.
Special gratitude to Pieter & Brenda of the Trails End Bike Hotel for hosting the successful event, providing the perfect backdrop for our celebrations.
This initiative is part of the Provincial Sustainable Transport Programme, run by The Western Cape Mobility Department Western Cape Government in partnership with ourselves & Pedal Power Association. Together, we are creating a more mobile, empowered, and sustainable future for Grabouw.

Re~Cycle Rocks!

These wheels of change are set to make a huge impact in the Western Cape, providing non-motorized transportation to those who need it most.

Re-Cycle to the rescue once again!

28 April 2023 –  We’re thrilled to announce that our container load of used bicycles from Re~Cycle in UK has finally arrived!

Thanks to this dynamic partnership, we can empower more people in South Africa to access non-motorized transportation and all the benefits that come with it.

With each bicycle we receive, we’re able to help someone save money on transportation, improve their health and well-being, and reduce their carbon footprint. We’re proud to play a part in creating a more sustainable future for all.
Thank you Re-Cycle UK & all your donors and volunteers for making this possible, and to our dedicated team at BEN for making sure these bikes find a new home. Let’s keep pedaling forward!

Re-Cycle UK Partnership ROCKS!

20 October 2022 – We were overjoyed to receive, yet again, another container load of 2nd hand donated bikes from Re~Cycle. The provision of a bicycle to a household in South Africa not only eases the mobility of school children, it also empowers the household with a tool for development that they can use to create income generation. Positive vibes for health, wealth and education. Bicycles improve access to farms, markets, jobs, schools and healthcare. It is significantly impacting on the lives of individuals. Re~Cycle UK container no 38 – 14,871 bicycles later…….

Excitement levels were high at BEN on 13 July 2022! Our latest shipment of bicycles from our wonderful partners, Re~Cycle , arrived from the UK after a much anticipated wait. Our crew unloaded the bicycles and our BEC’s are eagerly awaiting to purchase them and get them out into the communities at an affordable rate.  With the current costs of petrol – the bicycle is an essential tool for transportation.  Thank you to Re~Cycle and all those who kindly donated bicycles to South Africa.

Godfrey is a laryngectomee and is unable to talk, so taking public transport has been difficult in the past. With a bicycle, he has a liberty to travel without relying on communicating any information. The two wheels have empowered him and his family a new found freedom!

Freedom on a bike

Cycling offers a world of freedom. A bike presents a world of reliable transport and fresh perspective.
Robert uses his bike to travel 10km to get to work, a trip that would previously take several taxis, an hour, and up to R1000 a month. Now he saves time, money and has the independence to plan his route, thriving on the convenience of freedom. If he wants to visit someone or stop for groceries, he doesn’t need to plan anything.
Here’s to bikes and the beauty of the convenience they offer! Thanks Rob for your appreciation of the two wheeled machine of freedom, we love to see it!

Empowering people on Bicycles!

Gavin can’t imagine a life without cycling. After being gifted his bicycle, he has seen a shift in his life, gaining a new job and a new fresh sense of well-being.
From not knowing where to turn, Gavin now has a job, a mode of transport that saves him R1000 a month on travel costs, and a fresh sense of inspiration. Gavin has said that his bike is his best friend, and it’s given him a brand new sense of independence and confidence.
Brad bought Gavin the bike from On Bike in Westlake. Thanks Brad for supporting Gavin and well done to Gavin, we are so proud!
