Re-Cycle container arrives

Today is an exciting day at BEN as we welcome the Re~Cycle container of used bicycles from the UK.

Bicycles offer people a route out of poverty and a means to improve their lives, giving them opportunities to travel to work and school. They are surprisingly adaptable, and can be used to carry goods – giving small scale traders the opportunity to reach customers further afield, or deliver food to the communities. Every bike or bike part shipped to South Africa transform lives and communities.

We thank all parties involved for bringing together this great partnership.

Re-Cycle UK to the rescue

On 14th June 2021 we received our 1st container load of used bicycles from Re-Cycle UK! We couldn’t be more grateful. Thank you Re-Cycle and Halfords.
Since 2013 Re~Cycle has partnered with Halfords in the UK to collect and donate used bicycles to rural African communities. Millions of bicycles across the UK lie unused in sheds and often end up in landfill. However, these bikes can provide a much-needed lifeline to people in remote parts of Africa to travel to work, school and much more.
More than 60 000 bicycles have been collected and donated across the country.
The bikes sent to Africa provide an environmentally friendly and sustainable means of transport for communities to enable people to work, receive an education, transport food & medicine & learn new skills.

UK Re~cycle delivers to the community again!

Two friends, Nicole Richards and Caitlin William’s on their three wheelers.  Both ladies have grown up with cerebral palsy.  They’ve been friends for over 20 years having attended Bel Porto School in Lansdowne together.  After completing school, they both joined the Village Workshop in Claremont where they’ve worked for the past 11 years.  The Village Workshop is a project of the Western Cape Cerebral Palsy Association.  Caitlin’s bicycle was acquired with the help of the Bicycling Empowerment Network (through the Re-Cycle UK container that was donated in May 2021).  The three wheeler provides the stability required for Nicole and Caitlin to enjoy the pleasure of cycling, enabling them to fit in normally with society.

Whoop whoop Re-Cycle UK delivers once again! Thank you for the generous donation of used bicycles. This impacts so many people in Cape Town with the use of non-motorised transport. Your support is amazing and we appreciate every bicycle that comes our way.  Special shout out for the donations from the public in the UK, and all the Re-Cycle Staff for all the hard work organising and sending the bicycles to SA.

Container delivery over Covid-19 Lockdown

The Re~Cycle UK container arrived at BEN on Friday, 15th May 2020.  We unpacked the container, social distancing with less staff. All staff were masked, gloved and constantly sprayed with sanitizer and disinfectant. This was no normal container delivery.  We made sure that every COVID-19 safety and regulation was put into place before the delivery.  Our biggest concern was to get the bicycles into the warehouse the safest way possible.
Thank you Re-Cycle UK for our blessing of bicycles. In the meantime Tony from BEN has worked hard to get permits for our BEC’s to operate in the communities. Great team effort.

Tools to Work ROCKS!

Excitement in the BEN building as we welcomed an AWESOME container load of used bicycles from Tools to Work in the Netherlands. One couldn’t ask for a better way to end the year. THANK YOU!!!!

Re-Cycle UK delivers AGAIN!

Many thanks to Re~Cycle UK for our container load of used bicycles. We were beyond excited to receive them on Monday, 4th November 2019. Our warehouse is packed and we itching to get the bicycles out into the communities. Thanks so much Re~Cycle UK – you have no idea how much these bicycles change peoples lives. Special thanks must go out to all the donors and volunteers who work so hard to get these bicycles to us. You guys are just amazing! Thank you
